EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)

Working with difficult feelings, learning new ways forward

Sometimes we know that a situation, memory or thought is affecting us, but knowing that doesn't necessarily change how we feel about it. We can find ourselves caught in familiar emotional responses, even when we'd like to react differently.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), often known as tapping, offers a practical way to work with these responses. It combines focused attention on a particular feeling or issue with gentle tapping on a series of points on the body.

EFT can be used in a session with a practitioner, but it's also something you can learn to do for yourself.

What might EFT help with?

People come to EFT for different reasons. It may be helpful when working with:

  • Anxiety, stress and emotional overwhelm

  • Fears and situations that trigger strong emotional reactions

  • Difficult memories and experiences

  • Self-doubt and unhelpful beliefs about yourself

  • Feelings that seem disproportionate to what's happening in the present

  • Patterns of thinking or reacting that you'd like to change

EFT isn't about forcing feelings away or pretending that everything is fine. It's an opportunity to approach what's troubling you with curiosity and work towards a different response.

What happens in an EFT session?

We'll begin by talking about what you'd like help with and identifying a specific feeling, situation or issue to focus on.

I'll guide you through the tapping process, helping you pay attention to what's coming up while tapping gently on particular points. We'll notice how your feelings and responses change as we work, adjusting our approach as needed.

An important part of EFT is learning how to use it yourself. I'll explain the process and help you practise, so that you can begin to use the technique independently when it feels appropriate. You don't need to have any previous experience, and we'll work at a pace that feels manageable for you.

EFT can be a standalone approach, or we may combine it with other therapeutic methods where that seems helpful. There's no requirement to do so: we can work with EFT alone if that's what you prefer.

EFT sessions

1.5 hrs -  £75

You can book your appointment below. Once you've booked, I'll send you a client intake form to complete and return before your appointment. I'll also confirm whether you'd prefer to meet in person or online.

It's helpful to complete the form in advance so we can spend more of our session focusing on you and what you'd like to change, rather than working through practical details. If you haven't managed to complete it, don't worry - we can go through it together when we meet.
